Two taco vendors in El Monte arrested after altercation breaks out with health department

Two taco stand vendors in El Monte were arrested after an altercation broke out with the county health department. 

The incident, which was caught on camera, happened Saturday night near the intersection of Valley Blvd. Mountain Ave.

The health department had received several complaints about unpermitted food vending, which is a violation, but when police officers and health inspectors arrived at the location things got violent.

PM SVANIDHI Scheme: The government has taken a big initiative to help roadside street food vendors. The government has decided to provide them market by linking them with online platforms. Under PM SVANIDHI Scheme, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has tied up with Indian restaurant aggregator and food delivery start-up Zomato to provide roadside vendors an online market.

Food aggregator Zomato has agreed to work with the government to provide better market for street food vendors. It is to be known that the government has already signed an MoU in this regard with Swiggy.

Ahead of a City Council vote tomorrow to significantly add to the number of street vendor permits in the city, a new report outlines the disproportionate impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on New York City’s street vending community, a majority of whom are immigrants, and people of color.
