NAIRN is gearing up to host its second food and drink festival, which will incorporate demonstrations, tastings, food-related street theatre and various events over three days.
Taste of Nairn will also give the public a chance to put their culinary skills to the test in the World Tattie Scone Contest and a Showstopper-style cake competition.
The event, which is being supported by title sponsor Ashers, will feature over 70 different businesses and will take place between May 6-8.
Taste of Nairn, now in its second year, is being organised by Nairn BID, who are running a two-day Artisan Market in the Nairn Community & Arts Centre.
Lucy Harding, Nairn BID manager, said: “We are delighted to be bringing back Taste of Nairn after a two-year break due to Covid. It is shaping up brilliantly and there is certainly something for everyone. We have camp-fire cookery and foraging by Nature4Health, music events, and guest appearances from food and drink specialists. A number of our independent shops are putting on special offers and there will be food-related street theatre too, as a bit of fun for the kids.”
Other events include the World Tattie Scone Contest, and the Showstopper Cake Contest. All people have to do to enter the latter is bring a Nairn-themed cake to the Nairn Community & Arts Centre on May 8 between midday and 2pm, and these will be judged by
Rhona Patterson, editor of the magazine and Tracy Cameron, Highlands and Islands Business Development Manager for Scotland Food & Drink. Both of these competitions are just a bit of fun, so we encourage people to come along and have a go.”
Ali Asher from Ashers Bakery said he was delighted to be involved in Taste of Nairn for a second year. ‘‘Ashers Bakery is delighted to be sponsoring Taste of Nairn for the second time. It is great to see events like this happening in the town. They are important for footfall and encouraging people to visit Nairn. In particular this event puts a spotlight on what fantastic food and drink Nairn and the surrounding area offers. We are very fortunate in Nairnshire and the Highlands to have so many fantastic producers; this is the perfect platform to showcase what we all do.”.
