For more than 18 years, Kopitiam Kita has been a melting pot of the ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ spirit.

The extensive menu selection makes Kopitiam Kita in Kota Bharu a popular choice among locals looking to start the day with a hearty breakfast.

Kopitiam Kita is also a must-visit location for visitors on holiday or on a working trip to Kota Bharu.

The piece-de-resistance is the ‘roti titab’ – a combination between slices of toast, kaya and half-boiled eggs.

Kopitiam Kita was founded 18 years ago by Wong Nye Hua, a Hokkien from Raub, Pahang.

The coffee shop – which is also the family home – started with only 18 tables. Now, they have 108 tables!

Wong said the business never looked back since he invented roti titab in 2010.

Today, there are 22 varieties of roti titab, the most famous being the classic and pandan version.

In fact, roti titab is so famous that the brand name is trademarked by Wong.

Money Matters, But Money Isn’t Everything

Customers have been asking them to open branches in Klang Valley and other big cities.

Wong said profit is essential, but it isn’t everything.

We want to retain the quality of the food. The satisfaction of knowing that your efforts brighten up the day for people, that’s priceless. Furthermore, we have an agreement with tourist associations not to open branches to maintain its exclusivity.

Kopitiam Kita has been visited by many celebrities and famous people whose photos are plastered all over the coffee shop.

The big names include former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin, and Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, to name a few.

Feeding The Multitude

Not all Malaysians are fortunate to have a roof above their heads and have at least one meal per day.

This is why, every first day of Chinese New Year, Wong and his family would open up his restaurant for the public to eat for free.

We just want to provide good food, some happiness and love, and make a difference.

Wong said they not only distribute food, but they also take the time to talk to fellow Malaysians so that they may learn more about them.

After all, as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said, Malaysians are one family, said Wong.
