The manager of Victoria’s police union suggests law enforcement stations are so below-resourced that only a few unplanned absences are forcing them to close their doors.
Over the weekend, police stations in Williamstown and Sandringham were shut, and Sunbury did not have a divisional van operating thanks to workers shortages.
Police Association secretary Wayne Gatt states it is “just not right” and police are remaining revealed up by rapidly foodstuff eating places.
“McDonald’s do it far better,” he instructed Neil Mitchell.
“If a couple of persons were being unwell at McDonalds, the quick food items cafe would not shut down … they’d do a thing to keep that open.
“They’re a rapidly foodstuff outlet, Victoria Police is an critical service, and yet around the weekend we see two illustrations in which a pair of individuals are ill and out of the blue, because our sources are so threadbare, that crucial assistance to the community stops.
“We’ve enable our law enforcement station figures operate down to a level wherever we just cannot reply to it now.”
Mr Gatt says the point out govt has heavily invested in policing quantities, but below-allocation to stations continues to be a important issue.
“They are horrendously overworked and underneath-resourced at these stations,” he said.
“The process is just not operating.”
